Kendra lives, teaches, and trains in Aiken, SC. Aiken is a destination town for walk_smile_webhorse lovers to visit, and a “mecca” for equestrians of many disciplines, most notably carriage drivers, eventers, polo players, and fox hunters. Many international competitors make Aiken their winter training home, including carriage drivers Shelly Temple and Janelle Marshall and eventers Phillip Dutton, Boyd and Silva Martin and William Fox-Pitt. It is very affordable and beautiful, with great sandy footing year-round, mild winter weather and tons of nearby facilities for schooling, riding, and playing. Historically a winter colony for the elite of the Northeast, Aiken has a 200+ year history of equestrian sports and is home to Hitchcock Woods, a 2,000 acre public equestrian park. Aiken has a beautiful quaint downtown with lots of horsey shops, and is truly a wonderful place to visit or spend a season. Kendra writes articles for The Aiken Horse magazine, which is a great resource for checking out the Aiken equestrian “scene.”
